Global Marble Collection
The Global Marble series was conjured as a tribute to one of the most cherished literary works in my collection, The Little Prince by Antoine De Saint Exupery. The creative process towards the making of this series was divided into two distinct stages.
Stage 1– Exploring the globe
During the first stage, I embarked on a journey that spanned across the globe, carrying two marbles in my backpack, with the sole aim of discovering and capturing the perfect backdrops that would serve as the ultimate canvas for my favorite quotes from the book. My husband, Milan, captured these rare moments as we positioned the marbles in unconventional spots that later became the backgrounds of my collages.
Stage 2 – Exploring my feelings
The second phase of the series was a personal journey of self-discovery that allowed me to express my unique perspective and sentiments about the essence of human nature and everyday experiences through my collages.
Antoine De Saint Exupery, the literary genius himself, believed that stories ought to be presented in tandem with illustrations. Consequently, I spent several months scouring various second-hand shops and the great outdoors for objects that would enrich my collages. After assembling my collection of objects, I hand-colored the selected black and white images, before creatively placing the collected objects on top of the photographs. My husband then re-photographed the newly created scenes. The copies of vintage postcards with my favorite quotes were inserted during the final mounting process.
My pieces are full of symbolisms and metaphors that offer personal commentary on our priorities, relationships, and values, much like the novel Little Prince. Just like the little prince finds hidden meanings on Earth, there are hidden meanings in my pieces that you are welcome to explore.
